English Premier League Round 3 (22/08 - 23/08)

EPL quick picks. Due to time constraints, FULL round analysis will not be available.

Saturday, August 22
Manchester City v Wolverhampton Wanderers

Preview: Four days after their hard fought win at Wigan, Wolverhampton face the daunting task of facing a rested Manchester City in front of a sold out City of Manchester Stadium. The Wolves are boosted by the return of striker Kevin Doyle and experienced defender Christophe Berra but their main target man, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake remains out with a hamstring strain. Manchester City have doubts over Adebayor and Robinho but have a plethora of strikers to choose from if they are not passed fit.

Verdict: There will be no place to hide for the Wolves players, especially the midfielders, on the large Manchester pitch. All the Wolves midfielders except for Milijas played the full 90 minutes on the Tuesday evening so it can be expected that the visitors may experience some heavy legs towards the latter part of the game. Ofcoarse, Manchester City's strength lies in their midfield and forward line so I expect the home team to take full advantage of any weakness. With this in mind and Manchester's motivation to impress in their first home game, a comfortable win for the Sky Blues is a more than likely outcome.

Pick: -1.25AH @1.89 (188bet, 6 units)
Manchester City 1 - 0 Wolverhampton

Wigan Athletic v Manchester United

Preview: Both teams will look to get back into the winner's circle on the weekend after suffering midweek defeats respectively. Wigan suffered a dissapointing 1-0 defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton whereas even more surprisingly, Manchester United lost at Burnley by the same margin. An intriguing match is expected as Manchester winger, Antonio Valencia, returns to his former club. In team news, Wigan's flying winger Charles N'Zogbia, is rated 50/50 whereas Manchester's defensive force in Nemanja Vidic is expected to come in to sure up a shaky defence.

Verdict: Everyone expects Manchester to return to winning ways today but Wigan Athletic are a tough nut to crack, especially on their home patch. It is most likely that Wigan will play a counter-attacking style against their more favourable opponents and hope that the speed of Rodallega can catch the Reds on the break. Manchester should ready themselves to be patient and take their opportunities when they come. Taking all sorts of permutations into account, I believe that Manchester are more likely to score in the second half than the first.

Pick: Manchester United -0.5AH in second half @1.96 (10Bet.com, 6 units)
Wigan Athletic 0 - 5 Manchester United (0-0ht)
