Manchester City v Tottenham
Verdict: Tottenham have a chance to claim the fourth and final Champions League spot with a win over Manchester City tonight. Tottenham currently lie in 4th spot, 1pt ahead of Manchester City. Last weekend, the Sky Blues kept the pressure on Spurs with a somewhat unconvincing 3-1 win over Aston Villa. Aston Villa took the lead and were unlucky not to go two up before defensive lapses on the stroke of half time gifted Manchester City the lead and the momentum. On the other hand, Tottenham kept a stranglehold on 4th place with a 1-0 home win over Bolton. Tottenham created numerous opportunities to make this a comfortable outing but were wasteful in front of goal.
Despite Manchester City's emphatic wins against Burnley and Birmingham City, Tottenham are arguably playing the better football at the moment. The visitors come into this game on a record of 8 wins from their last 10 outings, and have just recently regained the services of Aaron Lennon from long term injury. Manchester City loanee, Marton Fulop, will continue to deputise for the injured Shay Given while Lescott is out for the season. The visitors have an injury cloud over keeper Heurelho Gomes (who I'm sure will play) and Ledley King with his recurring knee problems.
Manchester City do have a good home record (12-4-2) but have failed to perform at Eastlands (in recent months) when confronted with better teams (ie. Liverpool, Everton, and Manchester United). In addition, home wins against Wigan Athletic, Bolton, Portsmouth and Aston Villa were less than convincing. Considering that Tottenham is a more dynamic team than Aston Villa who were rather unfortunate on the weekend, I give the visitors a good chance at taking something from this game.
