Blackburn v Aston Villa
Team news: Blackburn - Grella (OUT), Diouf (susp.), McCarthy (doubtful), Givet (doubtful), Roberts (OUT) -- Aston Villa - none
Verdict: Blackburn Rovers and under fire manager, Sam Allardyce, will look to perform heroics this evening as they face a refreshed Aston Villa side just 3 days after going down 4-1 at Manchester City. In addition, they have a whole host of injuries and doubts to contend with. Aston Villa's last game was 12 days ago which was incidently a 3-1 FA Cup victory over Blackburn.
Despite their shortcomings this season, Blackburn have lost only twice at Ewood Park but currently find themselves in a sticky patch. The Rovers are currently on an 8 game winless streak, and have been kept scoreless at home on 3 of their past 5 competitive fixtures. In contrast, Aston Villa are in fine form and despite losing to Arsenal and Liverpool before the turn of the year, they have been performing well on a consistent basis.
Villa manager, Martin O'Neill, has a full squad to choose from and has indicated that he will use his strongest team with only Brad Guzan replacing fellow countryman Brad Friedel in goal.
Due to the fact that the League Cup semi-finals are decided in two legs, we will take the safer betting option as Aston Villa don't neccessarily need to win this fixture.
Pick: Aston Villa DNB @1.80 (stanjames, 10 units)
Blackburn 0 - 1 Aston Villa
